What Takes Place During a Treatment:

When I meet an animal for the first time, I allow them to get to know me from a distance and do not immediately inner their private space without them giving me their permission first. I show the greatest respect for them and their space, by allowing them the time to feel my energy and become comfortable with my presence. Since animals are more sensitive to healing energy I usually start sending the Reiki energy from a short distance. This gives the animal a chance to decide whether he wants to receive the energy by testing it from a safe place on his own terms. Just like when you meet new people you keep a safe distance until you decide you feel comfortable with them and only then do you allow them into your close outer layer of energy that surrounds you, known as your aura or personal space. Animals will do several things during a session. They will sometimes move closer and allow me to place my hands directly on them. Some will move into a single position for the entire treatment or shift positions several times so my hands are placed right where they want them for as long as they want. Sometimes they may choose to stay a short distance away from me and allow me to beam Reiki to them from a distance that feels safe and comfortable. Many times the ones at a distance will move back and forth and turn in a direction where they want the Reiki energy sent. The animal always knows how much energy they need. As does the Reiki energy which will flow into the recipient exactly where it is needed in just the right amount. Most will become very quiet and relaxed and often times doze or fall asleep and in horses the often lower their heads and lick and chew for some portion of the session. Some animals will push their heads directly into your hands. All signs that they are relaxed and accepting the Reiki healing energy. The animal is usually the one who decides when a session is finished. They will usually get up and or simply move away. My reward is usually received in the form of licks, love bites, rubs or nuzzles and sometimes a neck hug from a horse. Usually there will be displays of happiness with wiggles, purrs or barks, and sometimes just a look of contentment that tells me in the animals own way “thank-you”. Always I give thanks to the animal for allowing me to be part of their healing journey and to God and my spirit guides for assisting me in helping me know just what each animal needs.

What do the Animals Feel?

Most animals and people will have feelings of deep relaxation and peace during and after a Reiki treatment. Some will feel a release of emotions. A sense of joy may be felt or an air of lightless. During the treatment one may feel warmth or cold. Some feel sensations of flowing energy like vibrations or gentle sparks in a certain area of their body. Some may see colors or wonderful images or recall special times.

Healing can usually be felt immediately afterwards and over the next couple of days or weeks. Changes can be seen on a physical and or emotional level as the energy starts to shift and restore balance to all levels. Health, emotional or behavioral issues that have been on going for long periods of time may need additional treatments to start the healing process and possibly assisted with the use of Anaflora flower essences.

How Does Distance Healing Work?

The universal life force energy that the practitioner channels to the patient in person through their hands during a session, can be sent through the ether like the waves sent from a wireless phone, radio transmitter or television cable to a receiver. In Reiki distance healing or absentee healing, we learn the keys that allow us to send the universal life energy to others. Natural laws exist which allow us to transfer universal life energy over long distances even though modern day science has not discovered or been able to confirm it. We do not need to understand how all the natural laws work that make this happen, in order to use it healing energy.

Telepathy is a form of sending energy long distances. This can be used to pick up past, present or future events. Perhaps you have thought of a person before they call you on the phone. Or have you ever had strong thoughts of someone come through to you that you could not shake and later find out some major shift or occurrence had happened to them? We use this distance healing every time we send our thoughts to our loved ones in other places or world crisis situations or animals in need of our help. Remember during Katrina and how we all sent our heartfelt love to the animals. It poured out of every cell in our bodies. This sending of heartfelt love to others is the universal life force energy that is used in Reiki and all other healing methods.

Distance Reiki healing has the same benefits as healing done with the patient present and opens up the ability to heal in many other situations and circumstances.

Frightened or aggressive animals where restraint is dangerous for both them and people, is perfect for distance Reiki healing. Other ways distance Reiki healing benefits animals is with injuries or illnesses where the animal does not want to be touched. Dying animals may not want to be touched but welcome Reiki energy as it helps them during their transition as they ready themselves for a new state of being. Wild animals who come willingly to accept Reiki healing energy will do so at a distance and on their own terms as most do not want to be in close contact with humans or be touched.

I met Diane at the Woodland Park Critterfest. She was looking for a dog and Sadira was a little dog that had been surrendered to the Colorado Peke and Pom Rescue the night before. There was an instant connection there and I knew Sadira had found her forever home with Diane.

I got talking to Diane about the little dog the Colorado Peke and Pom Rescue had taken in who was very afraid and unsure about people. By all indications he had been abused and did not trust people and would bite if he felt it was needed. Harley does not care for men and would bark at his foster dad anytime he was near.

Diane told me about the Anaflora Flower Essences and the Reiki that she does on animals and offered to come over and visit with Harley. When she met Harley she noticed that he was moving kind of strange like his little back was hurting and that he had apparently been abused.
We sat and talked and Diane showed me how to use the Anaflora Flower Essences and to put it in the water every time it was changed. She also sat and used Reiki on Harley and he did not run, but wanted to sit and the lay by Diane and be near her. He still did not wat to be touched much, but he did want to be near us.

After Diane left I started using the Anaflora Flower Essences in all the furry kids' water and after just a few days I noticed that Harley wasn't barking nearly as much at his foster dad and he seemed to be a little calmer. He started wanting to go on walks and then to be held more. He even rode in the car sitting on my lap with his little head on my shoulder looking out the window. A very happy different little dog.

Harley still has a ways to go, but the change that I have noticed in him in just a few short days is amazing. He is even starting to want to play!

Diane is still going to work with him, to get him so he will be an adoptable little furry kid so he can find the perfect home. It is so nice to see that he has come this far in such a short time. I know with Diane's help Harley is going to become a well adjusted, loving little dog like he wants so much to be.

By profession, I am an educator with an MA degree and years of experience in teaching new teachers in Canada. In this way, I feel eminently qualified to comment on Diane Ellis as an instructor. She was accessible and organized -- despite some unusual mitigating factors that might have disorganized even the most seasoned educator. Her facility in adapting her teachings and her teaching style to her learners and their specific learning circumstances was most impressive. 

It's commonly said that doctors are notoriously bad patients, well, teachers can be equally challenging learners. Diane's put me at ease immediately. The depth of her learning and breadth of her experience give Diane a facility with the content and flexibility when dealing with her students. This ease with the material frees her to focus on the learners and their learning needs. Diane can condense or expand information effectively in response to her students' experience and knowledge. No question was unwelcome or too simple to be patiently and carefully explained in a way that was easy for all to understand. Always, she was able to direct her learners to various outside sources so they might enhance their learning if they so desired.

As a person, I can say that Diane is kind, generous and pleasant to work with while learning.She is equally delightful company to chat with while having lunch. I personally was glad of her willingness to go the extra mile, sometimes literally, for her students!

I regret one thing only, and that is that I do not live closer, so that I might study with Diane Ellis further. This summer, I traveled across the continent -- from Vancouver Canada to Colorado --  to take Reiki I and II and Reiki for Animals from Diane. I am very glad I did!
